Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims to provide a critical perspective to the concept of history; to evaluate the changing communication paradigms from the past to the present in the context of epistemological, cultural and technological contexts from the social and cultural point of view; to reveal that the history of communication is not just history in chronological sense; to reveal the relationships between history, history writing, knowledge, power and dominant forms of communication.
Content: The contents of the course include the subjects such as stages of the phenomenon of communication and its technological, cultural, political and economic dimensions; origins of writing; the main differences between oral and written culture; typographic period; the invention of the printing press and modern literacy.
