Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the basic structures, flight theory and aerodynamic principles of aircraft systems. Students will gain in-depth knowledge of the operation of flight control systems, high-speed flight dynamics, airframe structure properties and aerodynamic performance of airplanes.
Content: The course begins with flight theory and aerodynamics, explaining how aircraft controls and control systems (aileron, elevator, rudder, etc.) work and their effects. High speed flight concepts, Mach Number, compressibility effects and the effects of shock waves on flight are detailed. Structural characteristics of the airframe, airworthiness requirements and structural assembly techniques are also covered. Topics such as fabrication of structural elements, corrosion protection, symmetry and alignment methods are also covered. Finally, the focus is on airframe pressure sealing, door and glazing structures, and loading systems.
