Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims to teach students the working principles of critical components of gas turbine engines such as turbine section, exhaust system, bearings, seals, lubricants and fuels. It also aims to provide information on maintenance, repair and performance evaluation of these components.
Content: This course is designed to provide licensed aircraft maintenance technicians with the technical knowledge required for advanced systems and components of gas turbine engines. The content is structured based on the EASA Part-66 Module 15 standard in accordance with the SHT-66 Instruction published by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and EASA Part-145 maintenance practices. Within the scope of Gas Turbines II course; turbine section, exhaust system, bearing and sealing elements, lubricants and fuel types, lubrication and fuel systems of gas turbine engines are covered at technical level. In this context, aerodynamic and structural properties of different turbine blade types, blade-disc connection methods, the functions of nozzle guide vanes and the stress effects on turbine components are explained in detail. In addition, the types of nozzles used in exhaust systems (convergent, divergent and variable field nozzles), thrust reverser systems and solutions to reduce engine noise; the importance of bearings and gaskets in terms of engine safety; physical and chemical properties of aviation oils and fuels and safe conditions of use are also included in the course content.
