Objectives and Contents

Objectives: The objective of this course is to provide Aviation Management undergraduate students with a fundamental understanding of the historical evolution of aircraft, the principles of flight, basic aerodynamic forces, and essential aircraft structural components and systems (including hydraulic, flight control, pneumatic, pressurization, environmental protection, and safety/security systems). The course aims to equip students with core technical terminology and a solid grasp of the technical foundations underlying aviation operations.
Content: This course covers the history and classification of aircraft, basic atmospheric concepts, flight principles, and aerodynamic forces acting on an aircraft. It details structural components such as the fuselage, wings, and flight control surfaces, as well as critical aircraft systems including hydraulics, landing gear, pneumatics, cabin pressurization, rain and ice protection, oxygen equipment, fire/smoke detection and protection systems, and emergency equipment. The course concludes with an overview of major aircraft security issues and an overall evaluation.
