Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims to explain the fundamentals of reinforced concrete structural elements and material knowledge, the basic principles of reinforced concrete structural behaviour, and to understand analytical methods and design stages.
Content: This course covers reinforced concrete elements, slabs, beams, columns, concrete and steel, material properties, behaviour curves, cracking, adhesion, interaction between concrete and steel, confinement, reinforcement details, loads, load combinations, safety, limit states, simple bending in rectangular sections, balanced reinforcement, weak and strong reinforced sections, double-reinforced rectangular sections, flanged sections, simple bending, M+N effect in rectangular sections, interaction diagrams, Mx+My+N effect in rectangular sections, simple stirrup and fret columns, shear force resistance, moment closure diagram, torsion effect, shear force and torsion effect, slender column behaviour, elastic calculation assumptions, elastic calculation in rectangular sections, frames, and column-beam connections.
