Objectives and Contents

Objectives: The aim of this course is to teach students the types of simultaneous interpreting, the environments in which these types are practiced, the techniques used in them, and the methods of coping with the difficulties encountered in their practices to develop sufficient skills to prepare and develop confidence in them to undertake any simultaneous interpreting practice that may be required of them in their professional life. The course also aims to develop the students' knowledge and simultaneous interpreting skills through contextual studies - in, both, the source and target languages - with particular reference to theoretical issues available in the literature within a range of genres where simultaneous interpreting is practiced.
Content: The students will be exposed to the concepts relevant in the simultaneous interpreting field through available literature in the discipline. They will be required to undertake simultaneous interpreting practice based on the course material as well as material compiled from the genres where simultaneous interpreting is practiced.
