New Media and Communication Department, which was found in 2015-2016 academic year, aims to educate qualified individuals of the age during undergraduate education with the tecnology that is appropriate and intagrates its internationalization standards. It is an interdisciplinary department and has emerged with the replacement of written and visual media tools, namely traditional media, to digital media. New media can be described as the transition from offline media to online media. Primary purpose of the programme is to gain knowledge and skills in the new media field such as communication and society, history of media, new media, traditional media, virtual reality, wearable technologies, artificial intelligence, new communication technologies, publishing, internet journalism, new media policies, viral marketing, interactive media, and digital culture.
Thanks to rapidly developing technology, new communication tools have emerged and to separate these tools from the old, the notions that are new media and traditional media have been used. Certainly, when new media called the tools like computer, smart phone, tablet etc. -which have internet connection and make online media consumption possible- come to mind. Giving its users widely high communication and interaction opportunity, new media tools will consolidate their place in tody’s world where internet usage is increasingly common. As New Media and Communication Department, our target is to raise qualified individuals who are innovative and create awarenss, follow technological developments and innovations, use new media effectively, create new media contents, understand, explain and improve the relations between the fields of culture, art and politics and integrate the digital into their lives, who are also conscious to the environment and society and can think modern, rational and critical.
