(Students demonstrate the knowledge, skills and/or competencies specified below upon successful completion of this course.) Classifies and understands microorganisms seen in oral diseases. Learns the colonization and disease-causing mechanisms of microorganisms responsible for periodontal diseases, caries, plaque and oral diseases, and learns their connections and interactions with other systemic diseases. Relates the treatments of diseases caused by these factors to medical information. Explains the antimicrobial agents used in these diseases, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization principles. Explains the microbiological methods used in the diagnosis of these diseases.
