OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS |
|
---|---|
Objectives of the Course Unit: | The aim of this course is to enable students to define the spatial elements of Istanbul and to evaluate the historical, urban and structural transformation examples of the city. In addition, to enable them to analyse the spatial experience of Istanbul through the urban elements (paths, edges, districts, nodes, landmarks) in Kevin Lynch's book City Image; to gain planning skills within the framework of environmental integrity in exterior and interior designs. |
Contents of the Course Unit: | This course deals with the spatial structure, historical and structural transformation processes of Istanbul in the light of Kevin Lynch's Urban Image theoretical framework. Through the city's paths, edges, districts, nodes and landmarks, the theoretical foundations of how urban image is produced and how spatial memory is formed are analysed. The course aims to explain the construction of urban identity by analysing the interaction of history, culture, social interaction and planning processes on the space of Istanbul. Thus, students are provided with a critical perspective on the theoretical foundations of urban space. |
