OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS |

Objectives of the Course Unit: | This course aims to provide the students with the basic knowledge and skills to enable reading fictional and factual texts of television within the framework of the concepts of critical theories, ideological analysis and cultural studies. |
Contents of the Course Unit: | Contents of the course include topics such as transformation process of media content and structural transformation of media in the World and in Turkey, the distinctive character of television as a mass medium in critical perspective, how the relation between television and society is conceptualized, how the industrial and technological development of television has structured television programming historically, narrative structure, narrative strategies and basic generic categories of television, changing meaning of television in Turkey with the beginning of commercial broadcasting, popular television content, how new communication technologies becoming widespread has transformed the television programming and viewing experience, importance of television criticism and media literacy in general. |
