OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The objective of this course is to teach the relationship between play, ritual, theater and traditional theater. The course also aims to provide information about the origins of traditional theater, its sources, its historical development, general characteristics of plays and also to introduce the tradition of folk theater.
Contents of the Course Unit: The birth of traditional theater, its characteristics, its historical development, shadow play, Karagöz play and types in Karagöz play, Light comedy and types in light comedy, Encomiast and Encomiast stories, juggling, improvisation, puppet and village play games.

Relate play, ritual, theater and traditional theater.
List the importance, function and sources of play.
Discover the culture that generated these works and the place of traditional theater in this culture.
Analyze the basic characteristics, historical development and characteristics of traditional theater.
Interpret the types of folk theater and Turkish entertainment life since the beginning.
