OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: It is aimed to develop the basic engineering knowledge given in the "Strength of Materials I" course and to gain the ability to analyze more complex structures.
Contents of the Course Unit: It includes the topics of the elastic curve, axial force and bending, axial force and torsion, shear force and torsion, bending and torsion, shear force and bending, yield criteria, and buckling analysis of columns.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

To be able to define the states of combined load cases and to calculate the stresses
To be able to design based on the yield criteria.
To be able to compute the displacement with the aid of the elastic curve and energy methods
To be able to solve statically indeterminate structures with the aid of the elastic curve and energy methods.
To be able to determine the buckling loads in columns subjected to compression.
