OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim is to provide knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to ensuring patient safety during endoscopy, and planning and implementing nursing care before, during, and after the procedure.
Contents of the Course Unit: Endoscopy, Endoscopy Nursing, Endoscopy Team, Responsibilities of an Endoscopy Nurse, Instruments Used in Endoscopy, Cleaning Endoscopic Equipment, Disinfection, Sterilization, Sedation.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Explains the basic concepts of endoscopy and endoscopy nursing.
Defines the indications, contraindications and complications of the endoscopy.
Recognizes the instruments that are used in endoscopy.
Explains the rules of the cleaning and disinfection endoscopes and other equipments.
Explains the importance of conscious sedation.
Lists the discharge criteria of patient.
Creates a safe environment for patients and staff.
Applies the nursing process before, during and after endoscopy.
