Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims to provide the knowledge and attitudes necessary to explain typical language development processes, identify the fundamental clinical characteristics of language disorders observed in childhood, and differentiate between typical and atypical language development.
Content: Definitions of communication, language, and speech concepts; typical language development and theories of language acquisition; childhood language disorders (developmental language disorder, autism spectrum disorder, language disorders associated with hearing loss and genetic syndromes); phonological development; morphological development; syntactic development; semantic and pragmatic development; characteristics of delayed language and speech; and early literacy skills.
