Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims to enable the students to identify the concepts of modernization and globalization, to have knowledge about modernization theories, to develop a critical perspective on modernization theories and the ability to analyze, to explain the characteristics and dynamics of globalization, to analyze the economic, cultural, political and legal dimensions of globalization, to compare and evaluate the approaches towards globalization, to understand the relationship between modernization and globalization.
Content: Contents of the course include; What is Modernization? Basic concepts of Modernization, basic features of Modernization (Rationalization and Individualism, etc.), Modernization theories and criticism, definition and characteristics of globalization, dynamics of Globalization, dimensions of Globalization (economic, cultural, political and legal etc.), approaches to globalization, discussions on modernization and globalization.
