Objectives and Contents
Objectives: This course is designed to equip seniors with knowledge about basic topics on high voltage engineering and to give them an ability to deal with the high voltage systems.
Content: Introduction to high voltage engineering, electrical stress and strength, Gas ionization processes, decay process, cathode process, Electrical discharge in gases: Townsend and Canal mechanisms, corona discharge, Electronegative gases and gas insulators, Partial discharge, Surface discharge, Breakdown mechanisms in liquid and solid insulating materials, Lightning mechanism, Generation of high voltages: AC, DA and impulse voltages, Measurement of high voltages, dielectric losses High voltage applications.
