AMAÇ VE İÇERİK
Amaç:	This course aims to enable students to analyse novels written in the Victorian period by putting under scrutiny the theoretical, political, social, and literary developments occurring in the 19th century.
İçerik:	This course covers the analyses of the novels written in the Victorian Era by such authors as Dickens, Eliot, Hardy, and the The Brontës.

identify the economic, social, and political developments which played a significant part in the emergence of the Victorian novel as a literary genre.
discuss literary transitions from the Romantic to the Victorian period.
analyse a novel in terms of character, setting, theme, plot, narrative etc. in an essay.
explain the major characteristics of realist and Victorian novels.
compare and contrast the novel genre with previous literary genres such as romance and epic.
