The aim of the Pastry and Bakery program is to train staff who have sufficient knowledge in the field to meet the demands for pastry chefs and bakers in businesses that serve food and beverage, to create an opportunity for people who want to improve themselves in the field of pastry, and to guide students in preparing and presenting high quality and creative products in food and beverage businesses.
With the education provided in our Istanbul Gelişim Vocational School, students are aimed;
• To be able to define basic concepts and professional standards of bakery and pastry,
• To be able to apply production methods and use technical equipments applied in food and beverage businesses for chocolate, cake, dessert and bread,
• To be able to make aesthetically pleasing presentations of the products produced in the field of pastry and bakery,
• To be well-informed about being able to make products within the scope of food safety.
Students who have graduated from the Pastry and Bakery program will have various career opportunities, such as to work as pastry chef, pastry maker, assistant pastry chef, baklava maker, pastry maker, baker and chocolatier.
Today, people have the habit of eating out and it is getting more prevalent day by day. At the same time, it is becoming more and more common to order food from various online applications. For this reason, the demand for staff to work in these fields will continue to increase. Moroever, people are always in the search for good food and good restaurants and their interest in this field shows an ever-increasing trend.
It can be a suitable choice for people who love to cook and eat, can work in a team, can work both mentally and physically, believe that they have a wide imagination and creativity, trust their palate and find it easy to socialize, or those who want to improve themselves in these aspects.
Individuals who graduate from the Pastry and Bakery program with an associate degree at the higher education level gain the title of “Pastry Chef”. Graduates can work anywhere engaged in bread and pastry production such as;
• In national and international cafes and restaurants
• In businesses with public and tourism certificates
• In food factories,
• In kitchens of airplanes, ships, trains and buses.
Horizontal transfer can be made to all departments with the same ÖSYM score type as the Pastry and Bakery program.
If the students who have graduated from the Pastry and Bakery program achieve a successful score in the Vertical Transfer Exam conducted by ÖSYM, they can vertically transfer to department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts.
