OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of this course is for students to be able to recognize and analyze public and semi-public spaces, to make accessible and functional design decisions that consider user needs, and to acquire basic knowledge and skills related to urban furniture and environmental fixtures.
Contents of the Course Unit: This course aims to enable students to recognize and analyze public and semi-public spaces, to identify user needs in these spaces, and to make accessible and functional design decisions. During the course, observation and spatial analysis are conducted on a designated project area; user behaviors are examined; and a program for the area is created. Urban furniture and environmental features are evaluated according to anthropometric and ergonomic criteria, material selections, and safety. Students apply their acquired knowledge to develop original urban furniture and landscaping projects.

Defines public and semi-public spaces, can distinguish between open and closed areas.
Analyzes user needs and creates space requirements for the project area.
Makes spatial decisions by evaluating data based on observation, surveys, and field analysis.
Evaluates social interaction, accessibility, and spatial quality criteria in public spaces.
Classifies urban furniture, evaluates it according to material, placement, and ergonomics criteria.
Develops user-centered design solutions based on anthropometric and ergonomic data.
Design urban furniture and landscaping for the project area and express ideas through methods such as drawings and models.
Evaluates the design proposals that he/she developed in terms of functionality, aesthetics, and user experience.
