OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of this course is to develop students’ critical thinking skills so that they can question assumptions, evaluate arguments, and apply these skills to the analysis of literary texts across different genres.
Contents of the Course Unit: The course covers the foundations of critical thinking (reasoning, language, bias, perspective, emotion, and imagination) and applies these skills to the analysis of literary texts in different genres.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Identify and distinguish between facts, opinions, beliefs, and reasoned judgments in written and spoken texts.
Analyze and evaluate arguments by examining their claims, evidence, assumptions, and types of reasoning (deductive, inductive, abductive).
Recognize cognitive biases and heuristics and assess how they influence interpretation and decision-making.
Construct coherent and well-supported arguments, including counter-arguments, in both analytical and argumentative writing.
Apply critical thinking skills to literary texts from different genres by analyzing language, perspective, and context.
