OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS
Objectives of the Course Unit:	This course aims to develop students' effective, clear, coherent, and purposeful writing skills in academic contexts. The course focuses on primary academic genres, research-based writing processes, documentation and citation styles, critical thinking, and cultivating an academic style in written texts.
Contents of the Course Unit:	The course covers academic text types, thesis statement development, argumentative writing, drafting, feedback-based revision, and final editing processes. Students will also enhance their skills in conducting literature reviews and synthesizing sources.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Explain the core principles, style, and tone of academic writing and distinguish them from informal/general writing. Construct well-developed academic paragraphs incorporating topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences within a logical flow and cohesive framework (cohesion & coherence). Summarize academic texts effectively without losing original meaning and rewrite sources using original phrasing (paraphrasing). Apply direct and indirect quotation techniques correctly, adhering to current citation styles (e.g., APA) and reference list preparation to avoid plagiarism. Formulate a clear, defensible thesis statement around a specific academic topic and compose engaging introductory paragraphs. Evaluate counterarguments and supporting evidence critically to compose structured, persuasive argumentative essays. Critically assess written drafts based on peer/instructor feedback to revise and edit content, structure, and grammar for the final text. Conduct literature searches on selected research topics and synthesize retrieved sources within an academic paper.
