Objectives and Contents

Objectives: The aim of this course is to equip students with knowledge on the basic principles of constitutional law and the concept of constitution, enabling them to analyse the concept of state, types of states and governments and also the concept of democracy. Also, within the scope of Turkish Constitutional Law; constitutional movements in the Ottoman Era, constitutional progress during the Republic Era, fundamental rights and freedoms based upon Constitution of 1982, and their limits as well as characteristics of the fundamental organizations of Republic of Turkey are discussed.
Content: The course includes the origins of constitutionalism, its development and the study of main constitutional systems of the world, as well as constitutionalist movements in Turkey, a comparative study of the Constitution of 1982 with the previous constitutions of the past.
