OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to develop students' basic reading and writing skills, enabling them to comprehend, interpret, and use basic critical reading strategies, as well as produce coherent and meaningful texts at the paragraph and short essay level.
Contents of the Course Unit: The course covers basic reading strategies (previewing, identifying main ideas, making inferences), paragraph structure, topic sentences, supporting sentences, transitional words, and fundamental writing processes (drafting, editing, revising). Students produce core writing types such as summarizing, paraphrasing, comparison, and cause-and-effect essays.

Apply basic reading strategies such as previewing, skimming, scanning, and note-taking during text analysis. Identify main ideas, supporting details, and implicit meanings in texts through critical reading skills. Summarize and paraphrase source materials effectively while adhering to academic integrity standards. Construct well-organized and coherent paragraphs with clear topic sentences, supporting details, and transitions. Produce various types of academic paragraphs, including comparison-contrast, cause-effect, and reflective response writing. Engage in process-based writing by creating drafts, participating in peer review, and revising written work. Evaluate digital resources critically and apply basic citation and referencing conventions in academic tasks
