OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim is to provide students with basic knowledge of measurement and evaluation, and the ability to use some measurement tools they may encounter in their professional lives upon graduation. It also aims to provide students with the ability to evaluate measurement results using various statistical methods.
Contents of the Course Unit: Measurement systems, international system of units, strain gages, structure, types, Wheatstone bridge, gage factor, pressure measurement, various manometers and vacuum gauges, temperature measurement, thermometers, prometers, viscosity measurement, definition of viscosity, viscometer types, force, moment and power measurement, speed measurement, tachometers, size and angle measurement, calipers, micrometers, angle measuring devices and comparators, various gauges, Johansson, buffer and fork gauges, measurement of gears, uncertainty and error analysis, least squares method, standard deviation and error analysis methods.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Understands measurement systems, the international system of units, and error analysis. Has knowledge of force, moment, and power measurement. Knows speed measurement.
Knows how to measure dimensions, gauges, unit strain, moment, speed, surface roughness and gears.
Knows pressure, temperature and flow measurements and can prepare reports.
