OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: They have basic knowledge about evidence-based practices, and have knowledge about identifying and applying current evidence-based practices in intervention methods available in the field of language and speech therapy.
Contents of the Course Unit: Concept and history of Evidence-Based Practice, Importance of research in speech and language disorders, Types of evidence and its importance for speech-language therapy, Principles and research methods used in research, External Evidence, Research items and the PICO concept, Systematic structure of scientific research - Experimental studies, Scientific ethics, Access to External Evidence: Use of library databases and PubMed, Validity of evidence: Internal validity, external validity, subjective biases, Evaluation of data on intervention methods, Research evaluation: Includes student presentations.

Student defines the concept of evidence-based practice.
Student knows the levels of evidence.
Student evaluates intervention practices and revises whether the practice is evidence based or not.
Student explains the elements of evidence-based practice.
Student can identify and evaluate the PICO elements of a research he/she has read.
The learner explains the evaluation of data on intervention methods.
Access to External Evidence: The learner practices the use of library databases and PubMed.
Validity of evidence: Define internal validity, external validity, subjective bias.
