OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: It’s aimed to gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding the etiology, clinical symptoms, and complications of acute and chronic diseases seen in infants and children, while considering individual, cultural, and socioeconomic differences, as well as planning, implementing, and monitoring disease-specific medical nutrition therapy.
Contents of the Course Unit: Medical terminology, the etiology of diseases, diagnostic and treatment methods, monitoring growth, clinical case monitoring, enteral and parenteral nutrition in children, medical nutrition therapy in premature infants, gastroenteritis, protein-energy malnutrition, infectious diseases, carbohydrate, protein, and fat absorption and metabolism disorders, and nutritional therapy in oncological diseases.

Analyzes the growth, development, and nutritional status of infants and children, organizing the medical nutrition therapy for diseases.
Proposes current dietary treatments used in the management of diseases in infancy and childhood.
Identifies acute and chronic diseases seen in infants and childhood, calculating energy and nutrient requirements.
Infers how foods and nutrients can be used in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases.
Follows the principles of enteral and parenteral nutrition in infants and children.
Follows the principles of medical nutrition when creating a nutrition program for premature infants.
Follows the principles of medical nutrition when developing a nutrition program for the treatment of acute and chronic gastroenteritis.
Follows the principles of medical nutrition when creating a nutrition program for protein-energy malnutrition and infectious diseases.
Follows the principles of medical nutrition when designing a nutrition program for malabsorption disorders and congenital metabolic diseases.
Follows the principles of medical nutrition when developing a nutrition program for oncological diseases.
Studies and compares specialized products used in dietary therapy.
Follows clinical and biochemical techniques used in assessing food intake, analyzing the results.
Differentiates and reproduces medical nutrition therapy based on different dietary habits, cultural backgrounds, and socioeconomic conditions.
