Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims to enable the students to attain the skills on preparation, writing and presentation of the homework, research report, article, thesis. The scope of the course will be taught by also taking into account the humanitarian situations in the process of working and producing in academic writing with the awareness that the students are not robots. Books on academic writing often give instructions on what to do. However, it is the human being who does this work and what is to be done and how, and which problem will be overcome and how is related to the cognitive processes beyond the simply techniques. Information; is learned, absorbed and applied through the thought-emotion-behavior intertwined. Therefore, at the end of the course, the students will be able to internalize the importance of ethical rules and not only to have the ability to use mechanics in writing and presentation techniques, but also to have the ability to overcome the external and internal difficulties they experience while applying these techniques.
Content: In this course; a ground for the course is formed by discussing the relations between the various concept pairs related to the topic such as skills-ability, mind-intelligence, desire-decision, inertial-zeal. Academic writing types are considered comparatively in terms of their functions and are concretized with examples. The students are provided to learn the reading, note taking and writing techniques; performing the academic writing process (literature review, reading and taking notes, determining and the limiting the research question / main theme, determining the methods of analysis of sub-research questions / sub-themes), editing the data, interpreting and reporting) with all stages, to learn IMRAD format and other report formats; to learn the types of academic plagiarism (plagiarism) and how to refer to the sources correctly, to prepare and make presentations using related technologies.
