OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to provide students with the ability to relate developments in the history of architecture and interior architecture to contemporary themes such as sustainability, social change and technological progress.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include the subjects such as Reactions to the 19th Century, International Movements and Avant-gardes, Modernism, Organic Architecture, Rationalism, Mies Van der Rohe’s style, Le Corbusier, Historicism, Postmodernism, Metabolist Movement, Blob Architecture, Archigram, Brutalism, Deconstructivism, High Tech, Parametric Design, Sustainable Architecture, Alternative Architecture.

Defines the main art movements and architectural styles in the history of interior architecture with their periodical contexts.
Analyses the interior designs of different historical periods in relation to socio-cultural and technological developments.
Develops original interpretations by associating historical information with current interior design problems.
Compares the changing design approaches in interior architecture from past to present.
Explains the intellectual and cultural dynamics underlying historical movements from a critical perspective.
