OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of this course is to enable students to develop concepts for a store structure in the city center, analyze spatial functions, and gain the skills to produce design solutions and presentations in accordance with professional presentation standards.
Contents of the Course Unit: The course covers the analysis of the functional organization of a store structure, the transfer of existing structural data into the design, the development of an original and functional project proposal, and the presentation of this project to the jury in accordance with professional presentation standards.

Creates and explains functional diagrams of the store structure in the context of its relationship with the environment and users.
Develops the conceptual design process and expresses it using appropriate visualization tools.
Supports the functional requirements of a two-story store facing the street in the city center with conceptual solutions and models.
Analyzes the physical and technical conditions of the existing structural area.
Plans the two-story store project with drawings and physical/digital models within functional and spatial integrity.
Defends design decisions, contextual analyses, and visual presentations before the jury at a professional level.

WEEKLY COURSE CONTENTS AND STUDY MATERIALS FOR PRELIMINARY & FURTHER STUDY

1 Performs contextual, user, and functional analyses of the retail store structure. Throughout the semester, the spatial, functional, and contextual characteristics of a retail store with a street-facing facade and landscaped area in the city center are examined. Through case studies, user, functional, and environmental relationships in store design are discussed. Preparation of Scenario and Analysis boards is also included. Lecture (PowerPoint Presentation)
2 Creates scenarios and design concepts in accordance with user profiles, requirements, and environmental data. Review of prepared research studies. Examination of the process of developing scenarios based on the retail’s user profile, functional requirements, and environmental data. 3 Refines the concept and develops the spatial plan through sketches and mass/volume studies. Finalizes the concept of a city-center retail store with a street frontage and landscaped area, and prepares 1:50 floor plans using sketches and mass/volume studies on the existing project. 5 Develops a site plan by assessing the street interface, entrance configuration, and connections between interior and exterior spaces.
