OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS |
Objectives of the Course Unit:
The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the anatomy of the foot and ankle and joint biomechanics, as well as the biomechanics of walking and balance; to explain foot pathologies and the biomechanical foundations of pathological gait; and to develop skills in assessment and interpretation based on this knowledge. |
Contents of the Course Unit:
The content of this course includes the definition and fundamental principles of biomechanics, the anatomy of the foot and ankle, ankle joint biomechanics, walking and balance biomechanics, foot pathologies, and the biomechanical characteristics of pathological gait. |
KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to) |
Explains the definition and fundamental principles of biomechanics.
Identifies the bony, joint, and soft tissue structures of the foot and ankle.
Explains the biomechanics and movement characteristics of the ankle joint.
Defines and differentiates the phases of the gait cycle.
Explains the forces and moments that constitute gait biomechanics.
Explains the biomechanical foundations of balance and the factors affecting it.
Classifies foot pathologies and explains their fundamental biomechanical characteristics.
Differentiates pathological gait types from normal gait.
Compares and interprets normal and pathological gait.
Relates biomechanical knowledge of the foot and ankle to clinical situations.
Interprets simple assessment results based on biomechanical principles.
Explains the effects of foot and ankle pathologies on gait and balance.
Analyzes the relationship between foot biomechanics and pathological gait through clinical examples.
Selects and justifies an appropriate assessment approach based on acquired biomechanical knowledge.
