OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of this course is to teach the basic principles of electrotherapy and physical agent-based treatment methods, to introduce the physiological effects of different current types, and to develop skills in safe, appropriate, and effective use in clinical applications. Students are expected to be able to apply electrotherapy modalities based on basic assessment results.
Contents of the Course Unit: The course content includes an introduction to electrotherapy and its history, the effects of electrical stimulation, direct currents, TENS, galvanic current, faradic and sinusoidal currents, interferential and diadynamic currents, ultrasound, Russian current, extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), and short-wave diathermy applications.

Defines basic concepts related to electrotherapy and different types of electrical currents.
Explains the physiological effects of electrical stimulation.
Differentiates the clinical purposes of TENS, ultrasound, and other electrotherapy modalities.
Applies galvanic, faradic, interferential, and Russian current applications.
Evaluates patient safety considerations and contraindications in electrotherapy applications.
