OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental concepts and laws of chemistry, and knowledge related to matter and the atom; to teach laboratory rules that must be followed, introduce the laboratory environment, develop skills in accurate weighing and proper pipetting techniques, enhance chemical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and improve the skills required to prepare solutions at various concentrations.
Contents of the Course Unit: This course covers fundamental concepts and laws of chemistry; properties of matter and atoms; the periodic table and its properties; chemical bonding; laboratory safety rules; laboratory equipment; accurate weighing using analytical balances; pipetting techniques; solutions and their properties; calculations and preparation of solutions at various concentrations; properties of acids and bases; and pH measurement.

Defines chemistry and classifies the disciplines of chemistry.
Defines measurement units and significant figures.
Identifies and classifies matter and its properties.
Classifies methods for separating mixtures.
Recognizes laboratory rules and equipment.
Identifies and classifies atoms and their properties, including quantum numbers.
Recognizes the fundamental laws of chemistry.
Recognizes the periodic table and its properties.
Correctly performs accurate weighing using an analytical balance and applies proper pipetting techniques.
Identifies and classifies chemical bonds.
Prepares and dilutes solutions by calculating different types of concentrations (percentage concentration, molarity, normality, etc.) in accordance with laboratory rules.
