OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of this course is to provide students with a firm understanding of the impact of molecular biology and genetics on medicine and the connection with medical knowledge and it's implication on patients.
Contents of the Course Unit: Chemical structure of the cell, structure of the cell, cell organelles, cell membrane structure, Mendelian and non-Mendelian genetics, transcription, translation, chromatin and chromosome structure, cell cycle control, cell division polymorphism, DNA repair mechanisims, mutation, hereditary diseases, prenatal diagnosis and genetic counseling

Relate molecular structure with biological function.
Discuss the genetic origins of cellular diseases
Illustrate the biological importance of the major molecular structures found in living organisms.
Explain the organelles of the cell.
Explain the concepts of mutation.
Explain the basic concepts of genetics.
Relate the concepts of molecular biology and genetics at the basis of cell functioning.
Explain the molecule structures that make up the cell with their functions.
