OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: To examine tourism with a social perspective, to understand the socio-cultural effects of tourism and to learn the characteristics of tourists with different social characteristics
Contents of the Course Unit: This course includes : Basic concepts related to sociology, tourism sociology, tourist types, touristic features, tourist characteristics, economic, physical and socio-cultural effects of tourism, relations and interaction between tourist and local public, sustainability in tourism, global ethics and tourism ethics

Defines the concept of sociology and its relationship with other branches of science and tourism.
Theoretical perspectives in sociology and evaluation of these theoretical paradigms' perspectives on social phenomena and tourism
Doxey Irrıdex' and 'Butler Tourism Life Curve' models for the development of tourism
Carrying capacity of the tourist area
Positive and negative economic effects of tourism
Effects of tourism on the physical and socio-cultural environment
Cultural change processes
Attitudes of local people towards tourism 'Social change and integrated threat theory, contact hypothesis'
Culture shock' causes, symptoms, stages and reduction
Social categories and stereotypes
Some social characteristics of tourists coming to Turkey (German, British, French and Russian tourists)
