OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of the course is to comprehend Arabic elements in Ottoman Turkish with their grammatical features; To be able to analyze the phrases in Arabic and to develop the ability to read, understand and translate fictional or informative texts written in the 19th century.
Contents of the Course Unit: In this course, all types of Arabic words are studied according to their usage in Ottoman Turkish. The Arabic phrases are analyzed in detail. In addition, studies are carried out to read and translate works written in Arabic letters and mostly printed works in the 19th century into Turkish today.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

List the types of Arabic words used in Ottoman Turkish at the end of this course.
List the rhythms used in making names in Arabic at the end of this lesson.
Find the rhythms of the words at the end of this lesson. By using these rhythms, students identify the type or root of words or derive new words.
Analyze the phrases in Arabic at the end of this course.
Remember the major Arabic and Persian prefixes and suffixes.
Read, analyze and translate various types of texts written in the 19th century into modern Turkish.
