OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The objective of the course is to teach the students the importance of correct nutrition and physical activity in the elderly and to gain the knowledge to choose suitable exercise types for elderly people.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; definitions and concepts, body structure and functions in old age, nutrition elements, nutrition in elderly, physical activity and benefits of physical activity in the elderly, chronic diseases and physical activity in the elderly with chronic illness and motivation methods recommended for increasing physical activity in the elderly.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Define basic concepts related with old age and physical activity
Describe the nutrients and quantities that must be taken by elderly
Explain the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity in the elderly.
Explain the types of physical activity that can be performed for the elderly
Select the most appropriate type of exercise according to the characteristics of elderly
