Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims to teach the fundamental principles of spectroscopic, chromatographic, and electroanalytical instrumental analysis methods; the basic components, characteristics, and operating principles of the instruments used; to provide knowledge on the analytical applications of these methods; and to enable students to interpret analytical outputs in order to perform substance analyses.
Content: The course covers an introduction to instrumental analysis; radiation and its properties; the electromagnetic wave spectrum; interaction of light with matter; spectroscopy; spectrophotometers and their components; atomic absorption spectrometry; atomic emission spectrometry; ultraviolet–visible molecular absorption spectrometry; calibration in instrumental methods; turbidimetry; refractometry; polarimetry; molecular luminescence spectrometry (fluorescence and phosphorescence); general concepts of chromatography; chromatographic methods; mass spectrometry; and electroanalytical methods.
