| Objectives: |
The aim of this course is to enable students to carry out editing, proofreading, and quality control on original and translated texts as well as machine translation and generative AI outputs according to linguistic, semantic, terminological, stylistic, and functional criteria. The course also aims to help students determine the appropriate level of editorial intervention, use traditional and AI-assisted tools effectively, and produce publication-ready texts appropriate to the purpose, genre, and target audience. |

This course covers the concepts of editing, correction, revision, proofreading, rewriting, post-editing of machine and AI-generated translations, and quality control, as well as the evaluation of original English and Turkish texts, human translations, machine translation outputs, and texts generated by generative AI. The course focuses on spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, word choice, expression, cohesion, coherence, terminology, style, tone, suitability for the target audience, and text structure. Students revise translations by comparing source and target texts, apply post-editing to machine translation outputs, and identify problems such as misinformation, shifts in meaning, repetition, stylistic inconsistencies, and terminological issues in generative AI texts. The course also includes the preparation of AI-assisted editing prompts, the use of track changes and automated quality control tools, editorial feedback, and ethical issues such as confidentiality, data security, copyright, preservation of the author’s voice, academic integrity, and disclosure of AI use. |
