OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to introduce students with the concepts of folk literature and folklore, history of folklore studies in Turkey and in the world, its development process and methods used in this field and to ensure students make practices in this field.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; concepts of "folk" and "folklore", scope of folklore in the world and in Turkey, information about the compilation and examination methods related with folklore, and teaching folklore theories and methods.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

List important names in the history of folk literature studies in Europe and Turkey.
Express the emergence of the concept of folk, the general characteristics of folklore and folk literature works with his/her own words.
Examine the sources of folk literature and folklore.
Apply the methods of collecting and reviewing folk literature works.
Categorize other sciences related with folklore.
Discuss the research methods to be used in folk knowledge works.
Apply the research methods that should be used in research about folk literature and knowledge.
