| Objectives of the Course Unit: | The aim is to provide students with fundamental knowledge about the operating room environment, surgical team structure, and operating room processes; and to develop their professional awareness and skills to participate in operating room practices at the level of observation and support within their authority, in accordance with patient and employee safety, asepsis-antisepsis principles, and ethical rules. |
| Contents of the Course Unit: | This course covers an introduction to surgery and its historical development, operating room organization and team structure, communication in the operating room, stress and motivation, surgical stages and patient preparation, patient safety, infection control and medical waste management, surgical handwashing techniques, wearing sterile gloves and surgical gowns, identification of surgical instruments, operating table preparation and instrument care, packaging and sterility processes of medical devices, support for interventional procedures (Foley catheter, nasogastric tube) in the perioperative period, introduction to suture materials and basic knotting techniques, management of pathology specimens, and basic information on laparoscopic and robotic surgery. |
