OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of the course is to enable students to comprehend the social, cultural, political and economic developments that set the ground for the formation of Turkish literature in the Servet-i Fünûn period and to get to know the leading representatives and works of Turkish literature in the modernization period. In addition to these, it is among the objectives of the course that the students learn the development processes of different literary genres that were transferred to Turkish literature during the Servet-i Fünûn period, the movements and schools of Turkish Literature in the Modernization Period, and the method issues in text analysis.
Contents of the Course Unit: The course includes a) prominent representatives and works of Turkish literature in the Servet-i Fünûn period, b) Western-origin literary movements influencing Turkish literature during the Servet-i Fünûn period and the development processes of these movements, c) literary text analysis.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Recognize the social, cultural, political and economic developments that paved the way for the formation of Turkish literature in the Servet-i Fünûn period.
Distinguish the place of the prominent representatives of Turkish literature starting from the Servet-i Fünûn period and their works in the history of Turkish literature.
Compare the development processes of different literary genres that were transferred to Turkish literature during the Servet-i Fünûn period, based on sample texts.
Discuss which movement or school of Turkish literature in the period of modernization of the works in prose and verse genres belong to.
Assess the methods to be adopted in the analysis of literary texts.
