OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of the course is to raise awareness and develop skills regarding the definition, emergence, structure, functioning, use, privacy, security, ethics, rights and responsibilities, information production and consumption of web and social media environments.
Contents of the Course Unit: Course content: the concept of literacy, new literacies in the digital world, web literacy, the development of web technologies and web eras, the fundamental elements of web literacy, writing and effective use on the web, social media tools, social media literacy, searching for information on the web, digital rights, digital responsibilities, information security, privacy, and ethics on the web, information literacy on the web, web technologies, and health issues.

To be able to explain the historical development of the concept of literacy and new literacies
Explain network technologies and the concept of web literacy
Ability to explain writing and participation skills on the web
Explaining what skills are required to access and read information on the web
Listing social media literacy and its components. Recognizing social media tools and explaining potential threats and security measures on social media.
