OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental anatomical and physiological structures of the brain and nervous system, as well as the basic mechanisms underlying neurological diseases, through an integrated approach.
Contents of the Course Unit: The course covers the general anatomy and physiology of the brain, the central nervous system and spinal cord, neuromuscular and muscle diseases, neuromuscular junction disorders, cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy, demyelinating diseases, dementia, coma, extrapyramidal system disorders, as well as upper and lower motor neuron diseases and spinal cord pathologies.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Defines and explains the general anatomy and physiology of the brain and the basic organization of the central nervous system.
Relates the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the spinal cord to motor and sensory functions.
Distinguishes and classifies neuromuscular diseases in the context of neuromuscular junction and muscle disorders.
Explains the fundamental pathophysiological mechanisms of cerebrovascular events, epilepsy, and demyelinating diseases.
Compares dementia and coma in terms of their clinical and neurophysiological features.
Interprets the effects of extrapyramidal system disorders on motor control.
Analyzes upper and lower motor neuron diseases based on clinical findings and patterns of neurological involvement.
Evaluates spinal cord disorders within the framework of central and peripheral nervous system interactions.
