OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to review the sociological theories on gender and family. Various theoretical perspectives about gender and family will be examined and discussed through readings and examples from everyday life. The social factors shaping families and gender relations will be examined. Changes in family and gender roles will be analyzed in a historical and cultural view.
Contents of the Course Unit: The concept of family, the theories of gender, female roles in Turkey, gender in business life, feminism, basic feminist ideas and masculinities are being discussed.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Comprehends the sociological meanings of the concepts of family and gender.
Critically evaluates the view of different perspectives.
Understands the effects of family and gender norms in every side of social life.
Discusses the differences between female and male roles and the consequences of these differences in various areas.
